What would it feel like to embody the postpartum of your dreams?

After having my baby, I started to look at our healthcare model with a completely different perspective. There is a huge lack of support and a gap in care during postpartum. Once someone delivers a baby, the healthcare visits stop being about them and shift to the baby’s care. What once used to be a community event has now become the responsibility of just two people (sometimes one). 

I thought I was prepared because I knew all the medical knowledge about pregnancy and breastfeeding, but no one had ever taught me or prepared me for the mental aspect that is the most important piece of postpartum life. During my doctoral research program I studied mindfulness strategies that are evidence based, that can increase self-efficacy. Using these strategies, my patients have now been able to make successful changes in their lives! 

 My method relies on combining medical knowledge and mindfulness philosophies.
